Village primary school

Village primary school

Most decent sized villages in Laos have their own primary school and Napafa was no exception. Unfortunately, resources AND facilities are scarce. It was amazing to find out how little money was needed to help improve the situation. We are not talking about a computer for each student or even for each class room or even for each school but the basics like chalk, writing pads, pens/pencils, school books and a very basic library.

And let’s not forget about rubbish tins, playground equipment and especially toilets. Luckily some UN agencies do help out with these things, albeit in a limited manner.

P.S. It’s understandable that when facilities are poor or non-existent basic behavior like tidiness and cleanliness are often neglected.

Citizenship Education in Ghana For Primary Schools Pupils' Book 4

Ghanaian Citizenship Textbook-- P4 level

Citizenship education is introduced into the curriculum in Ghana at the Upper Primary level (P4-P6) to make children appreciate basic concepts and values that underlie a democratic political community and constitutional order to enable them uphold and defend the Constitution of Ghana at all times.

Because of logistical difficulties and high costs, many schools in developing countries do not have easy access to textbooks. Worldreader.org addresses that problem using e-reader technology. Worldreader.org works with Ghanaian textbook publishers to offer a range of digital textbooks to schools in Ghana as part of their wider goal to promote literacy by bringing books to all.
